Recreation Level Soccer

Recreation Soccer Program Mission Statement: The mission of Readington Township Recreation Soccer program is to offer boys and girls, beginning with Kindergarten through middle school, an opportunity to learn and develop skills, have an enjoyable experience and compete at their appropriate skill level.

The Recreation Program is less competitive at the younger levels, skills are the key focus and records are not kept. At the end of the season there is a get together and trophies/medals are then given to each participant. Professional training has been added as a feature of the rec program.

The two separate seasons for Recreation Soccer are September – November, and April - June. Each season has its own registration.

The Recreation Soccer program is co-ed for Kindergarten players and 5th grade and older, and is segregated by gender for the 1st through 4th grade players in the fall session. All ages can be co-ed in the spring session, as fewer players participate. The final split is determined from the mix of the players enrolled prior to each season commencement.

The participants will usually have a game on Saturday and one practice during the week. The players provide their own soccer cleats and shin guards; the program supplies balls, fields, a uniform shirt, and socks.

Travel Level Soccer

Travel Soccer Mission Statement: The mission of the Readington Travel Soccer program is to offer to boys and girls the opportunity to play at a more competitive level under the structure of the Readington Travel Soccer Club.

The primary goal of Readington Travel Soccer Club (RTSC), a Readington Recreation Travel Program, is to foster an environment in which township residents between the ages of 8 and 19 (U8-U19) learn to love playing the game of soccer, the world's #1 sport.

Our club promotes ongoing player development via a professional training program and competitive games. Each player has the opportunity to play in up to 10 league games each season and up to 4 tournaments each year. The RTSC teams participate in the Mid-New Jersey Youth Soccer Association league (MNJYSA).

Travel Soccer performs it tryouts in late May/early June. A full season, by MNJYSA charter, is defined as both the fall and the spring season segments, starting with the fall. It is very important to note that joining a travel soccer team is a commitment for both fall and spring to that one team.

The MNJYSA league divides the many teams into age/ability-based flights, ensuring that teams compete with other teams at their own levels. Teams are re-flighted prior to each season segment (before the fall and then again before the spring segments) based upon their previous performance and recommendation from their home club.

The age level that assigns a player to a particular team is not based upon scholastic grade, but strict birthdate as per USSF and FIFA charter, and the dividing line is July 31-August 1. Players cannot play in a lower age group, but can, in special approved circumstances, play in a higher age group. In some cases a player cannot play with his scholastic grade level due to this age requirement and must try out for the 'next grade up'.

There will be some travel to away games (about 1 hour is the farthest away) as the MNJYSA reaches across central NJ, and we are on the west end. Teams participate in the Readington Soccerfest Tournament during the second weekend in September and also other tournaments as decided within each team.

The cost of the program is very low as compared to other nearby Travel Soccer programs, as the Soccerfest Tournament and the association with Readington Recreation provide a good basis for operations. There is a one-time registration fee that covers the entire fall/spring season; players are required to participate in both seasons' segments. RTSC/Readington Rec provides fields, equipment, referee fees and focused professional training. Team uniforms are purchased by each player as part of a group rate club purchase. The players provide their own soccer cleats and shin guards.

The Travel Soccer program offers the following age teams for boys and girls as long as there are enough Readington participants in that age group.

Adult Indoor Soccer (AIS)

Recreation Soccer Program Mission Statement: The mission of Readington Township Recreation Adult Indoor Soccer program is to allow township residents (men and women), the opportunity to exercise once a week while playing pick-up soccer games during the school season.

AIS is non competitive and only charges a $5 fee to cover secondary insurance costs for the season. Players must be 18 years old & over. High school students may also play if accompanied by participating parent.

The AIS season runs from October thru April, every Wednesday evening from 7:30 – 9:30 at the Holland Brook School Gym, when available. Gym is unavailable if school is closed due to holidays or inclement weather. Gym is also unavailable if used for school activities.

Typically 2-3 teams are picked every week & play 4v4 or 5v5, no goalkeeper. Games are 10 minutes long, and teams are rotated evenly so everyone gets equal playing time.

The AIS program supplies indoor ball, small goals, gym space and colored pinnies. Players must wear indoor soccer shoes or sneakers. The HBS gym has a rubberized playing surface so it's much easier on the joints than the hardwood floors.
